The IGP

The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) is the external control body of the Police of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg according to the dispositions of the law of July 18th 2018 about the General Police Inspectorate.

Its general mission is the control of the proper functioning of the Police.

The IGP is a service placed under the direct authority of the Minister for Home Affairs and under the functional authority of the Minister of Justice, the General Attorney and the other judicial authorities.

While executing their missions, IGP members are committed to respect the values of the IGP Charta of values:

  • independence from the Police;
  • objectivity in their actions, appreciation and language;
  • transparency of their actions;
  • integrity.

As an actor of the internal security, the IGP aims at consolidating and reinforcing citizen's trust towards the Police by promoting the respect of human rights and of the laws of the state according to exigent ethical and deontological principles and by pursuing the quality and the efficiency of Police work.
