The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) is the external control body of the Police of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It was created in 2000 according to the dispositions of the law of May 31st 1999 about the Police and the General Police Inspectorate in order to ensure the proper functioning of the police.

The IGP is a service placed under the direct authority of the Minister of Internal Security and under the functional authority of the Minister of Justice, the General Attorney and the other judicial authorities.

While executing their missions, IGP members are committed to respect the values of the IGP Charta of values:

  • independence from the Police;
  • objectivity in their actions, appreciation and language;
  • transparency of their actions;
  • integrity.
